Growing Kindness SAE
Project type
Community Service
Date
March 2023
Growing Kindness was a community service–based SAE that I completed with my peers in the Grays Creek FFA chapter. As part of this project, we cultivated a variety of cut flowers and arranged them into bouquets that were donated to Cape Fear Valley Hospital. Our team worked collaboratively to ensure that each plant received proper water, nutrients, and care to produce healthy, vibrant blooms.
Throughout the project, we developed extensive horticultural knowledge, including how to collect and reuse seeds from spent flowers and how to properly store and care for dahlia tubers. In addition to technical skills, we strengthened our leadership abilities—especially important for me as one of the officers helping guide the project.
Our work and its impact were recognized at the state level, and Growing Kindness was featured on the NC FFA SAE Spotlight page. This experience not only served our community but also deepened our passion for horticulture and agricultural education.
